Traditional crafts, custom made for your family.
Located in South Georgia, the Quilt Shed is a family-owned business offering custom quilts and other crafts by request. Our family also produces delicious, homegrown cane syrup seasonally.
Quilts have a rich history as a craft and a method of preserving family stories.
The practice of stitching together padded layers of fabric dates back hundreds of years. One notable chapter in the history of quilts in America was the role their creators played during the Civil War. Quilts often contained hidden messages in their design that helped convey Abolitionist messages or escape routes along the Underground Railroad. Modern quilts are a work of art just as much as a practical item. Other crafts, such as the embroidery shown here, personalize items from the Quilt Shed for each individual customer.
The owner of the Quilt Shed, Sandy Wells, creates crafts that span generations.
During COVID, Sandy’s position as the head of a respiratory therapy department brought her close to sickness and death every day. She began to think about the importance of our legacies, the things we leave behind, and traditions we maintain. She began quilting because the craft gave her a creative outlet and a way to create permanence during the pandemic.
Now Sandy’s hobby has turned into a business, and she provides custom quilts and other items for families to treasure for generations. She works in the quilting shed on the Wells’ homestead, where she has room to spread out and create. Sandy enjoys collaborating with her clients to craft memories that will last.
